Song Review: Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop

Hey everyone! Miley Cyrus is back with the first single from her upcoming fourth studio album!

The song is called 'We Can't Stop' and was released just over a week ago.

On first listen, I wasn't that impressed. I thought it was an ok, fairly catchy song, which didn't really go anywhere ... BUT after repeated listens, I can confirm it is indeed a huge grower and I now love it !

It's super mid tempo and it's a really relaxed, summery single. The fuzzy synths and the thumping beat give the song a really woozy and dazed feeling... like the way you feel in the morning, after a long night!

Miley's vocals are strong and her delivery matches the heavy beat of the song. We also have highly pitched-down vocals at the start and throughout the song, delivering a drowsy hook, which sounds great!

As for the subject matter, Miley is singing about partying all night and basically not wanting or being able to stop. I feel the drug references fit the overall drugged up vibe that this song exudes, as well as painting a bit of a sad and desperate picture of American youth culture. I feel like the imagery is, at times, really vivid and the lyrics paint an interesting portrait of a Hollywood lifestyle.

Production was handled by hip-hop/R&B producer Mike WiLL Made It, who has previously worked on great songs with Rihanna and Ciara! 'We Can't Stop' is a heavy production with lots of urban flavour, but the light piano chords and poppy verses/chorus help retain some pop-friendliness, which makes this song quite unique !

Overall, 'We Can't Stop' is a great song, which will defintely grow on you! It's a great summer tune with  interesting imagery and is really catchy! I love the wooziness of the production and vocals, which I think suits the lyrics very well.

 8/10!
